Correlation Between Laboratory Diagnose of Trichomoniasis With Vascular Pattern of Cervix by Endoscopy

 

Abstract

Flexible endoscopy was used in examination cervix lesion the first was studied by Nishiyama et al was reported the used of endoscopy for diagnosing cervical neoplasms. The second study of K Uchita et al. study feature findings of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia or more on magnifying endoscopy with narrow band imaging Trichomoniasis is a common, worldwide, urogenital infection with Trichomoniasis vaginalis. It is a frequent cause of symptomatic vaginitis and a less common cause of nongonococcal urethritis in this study correlation were done by laboratory diagnosis of trichomoniasis with endoscopy finding.

Cross-Sectional Study of Cerumen Impaction Among Inmates of a Nigerian Correctional Facility

 

Abstract

Background: Prisoners are prone to many diseases and their complications. In most countries, prisoners are neglected, so also their ear health. This study aimed to determine the pattern and prevalence of wax impaction among inmates of a prison in Kaduna Nigeria.

Participants and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of prison inmates at the Kaduna convict prison and a control population. All consented inmates aged 18 – 55years in the Kaduna convict prison were enrolled. Equal number of controls matched for age and gender were enrolled from the communities in Kaduna North Local Government. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire. Participants had thorough physical examination of the ear as well as otoscopy to assess the external auditory canal for presence of impacted wax. Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) version 20.0 was used to analyse the data. Test of significance was conducted with chi square test.

Results: Four hundred and thirty inmates and equal number of controls matched for age and gender were enrolled for the study. The mean age for the inmates and controls were 29.7±8.1 years and 30.47±8.02 years respectively. In both groups 47 females and 383 males were enrolled, with a F:M of 1:8.1. Prisoners had wax impaction in 56 (13.0%) right ears and 55(12.8%) left ears while the general population had wax impaction in 56(13.0%) and 58(13.5%) right and left ears, respectively.

Conclusion: Wax impaction showed no preponderance between the inmates and the general population.

Auditory Training for Post lingually Deafened Adults Cochlear Implant Users

 

Abstract

Difficulty in speech discrimination is a major complaint among post lingually deafened adults, which are cochlear implant (CI) users. Consequently, it is important to study the factors that offer positive post-operative outcomes in order to get the most out of this technology. Thus, many clinicians tend to orient the implanted toward the auditory training program with the aim of teaching them to make perceptual distinctions about sounds that are presented systematically. Therefore, a systematic review was performed to examine the influence of aural rehabilitation on post lingually deafened cochlear implant users’ speech recognition with an eye towards reaching its full potential. A total of 20 articles was used in this review, chosen from PubMed, Science Direct, semantic scholar, international journal of audiology, and journal of speech, language, and hearing research. It was therefore concluded from the analysis of the previous studies that the auditory training may be advantageous when it considers the individual’s own characteristics towards designing a proper auditory training program while tracking his/her progress throughout this period. Furthermore, choosing between clinician-directed training and computer-based home training or a combination of both is essential, considering the patient and the clinician’s preferences. Not to mention the high importance of choosing a processing strategy that helps differentiate between the sound cues. It may also be beneficial to train the cochlear implant users on environmental sound identification as well as speech recognition or speech tracking to recognize them better. Auditory rehabilitation could be more valuable when provided in the long-term and when conducted in more realistic situations that resemble real-life environments. In order to achieve the desired results, future studies should focus on sample size adjustments, including less heterogeneity among the participants, while conducting long-term training suitable for each patient along with the proper processing strategy.

Primary Mucosal Malignant Melanoma of the Maxilla: A Case Report and Review of Literature

 

Abstract

Primary mucosal malignant melanoma of oral cavity is a rare malignancy arising from the melanocytes. Mucosal melanomas of the head and neck comprise just over 1% of all melanomas and of these about 50% arise in the oral cavity. Oral mucosal melanomas are therefore rare, representing about 0.5% of oral malignancies and less than 0.01% of all oral biopsies. It tends to metastasize and locally invade tissues more than other malignant tumours of the oral cavity. It occurs commonly in the maxillary gingiva more frequently on the palate and lesser often in the mandibular gingiva. Here, we present a case of a mucosal malignant melanoma involving the maxillary bone along with the immunohistochemical profile of the neoplasm.

Round Window Electrochleography in Cochlear Implantation

 

Abstract

Introduction: In this study which was achieved at Izmir Bozyaka Teaching and Research Hospital, identifying the sensitivity and reliability of round window electrocochleographic records on children during cochlear implantation and investigating the applicability of the method on particularly problematic patient groups was aimed.

Material and Methods: In this study, the golf-club electrode was placed on the round window niche during cochlear implantation of 30 patients after posterior tympanotomy. Then click stimulus was given by TDH 39 headphones over the speculum which was placed in the external ear canal and the responses that obtained from the stimuli were recorded with Medelec Snergy Amplifier device. The round window ECoG records which were obtained from these 30 patients were compared with the preoperative ABR results. Round window ECoG responses were acquired during operation in 22 patients who had no response to ABR preoperatively. Two patients responded to both preoperative ABR and perioperative round window ECoG. And 7 patients had no preoperative ABR and perioperative round window ECoG responses.

Discussion: Our outcome data shows that round window ECoG is more sensitive than ABR while deciding for cochlear implantation. The results are statistically significant. Outside of the study, there were 8 patients more. These 8 patients had some abnormalities and because of these abnormalities it was difficult for us to decide for cochlear implantation. We performed round window ECoG to these 8 patients via trans canal way. In these patients we again found that round window ECoG is more sensitive than ABR for determination of residual hearing and it can be a guiding test for us to decide for cochlear implantation in patients with abnormalities.

Conclusion: As a result, round window ECoG is a very sensitive method for determination of residual hearing and it might be used in patients who has abnormalities such as bony labyrinth abnormalities, auditory neuropathy, and meatus acousticus internus stenosis that complicates our decision for cochlear implantation.
